Boys Team FAQs
Our season runs from late March to early June. Practices and games are held on weekends with breaks for Memorial day weekend.
No, but your son must live in the Rye Neck School District. They can attend school elsewhere.
Paid coaches have college-level lacrosse experience or higher; volunteer parent coaches are an important part of our program - please reach out if you are interested in helping out! RN High School Varsity players help out as well. All adults complete a background check and other training via USA Lacrosse.
Boys field lacrosse requires a stick and full pads including helmet, shoulder, elbow, gloves, and cup. Cleats are recommended but not required (soccer or lacrosse cleats are ideal).

Equipment can be found locally at Blueline Sports in Harrison, Dick's Sporting Goods in White Plains, or Lacrosse Unlimited stores (Bronxville, Greenwich, etc).
Generally for younger players it's fine to look at pads in the lower price range - Maverik Charger or STX 200. Higher end equipment can be lighter or allow for better movement, but is primarily designed for older players where there is a lot more contact. The most expensive piece of equipment will be the helmet ($125-400 new) - it's also the most important!
After the helmet, a good stick is also important - but this does not need to be expensive. The Relax RC1 is our #1 recomendation for a beginner stick. Mesh pockets are recommended at this age, and either a smaller 7/8" shaft or the more common 1" shaft is fine (the smaller diameter can be great for smaller hands).
Stick length should be a minimum 36" including the head, most are sold slightly longer and can be cut down if needed.
Our full boys equipment rundown is here.
Our 3rd/ 4th grade team falls under the USA Lacrosse 10U designation. Generally games include:
- 7 field players +1 goalie
- Faceoffs to begin possession
- 1 pass rule after faceoff
- Four 10 min running time quarters
- Limited stick checking at this level, and no body checking allowed.
The 5th/ 6th grade team is USA Lacrosse 12U with similar rule structure, although slight differences include time-outs, penalties, subbing, no 1 pass rule, etc.
Click here for the USA Lacrosse rules comparrison chart, or here for more info on allowed contact at the different levels.
At this level legal holds, riding and boxing out is allowed, but body checks, bull dodging or other dangerous contact is strictly prohibited. Similarly, controlled stick checking is allowed, but refs should be quick to call penalties on slashing or aggressive or dangerous use of the stick. 10U (3rd/ 4th grade) and 12U (5th/ 6th grade) Youth Lacrosse rules do not permit the aggressive contact seen at higher levels.
RNYL is part of the Hudson Valley Youth Lacrosse organization, which bases rules on USA Lacrosse guidelines. For more info:
No prior lacrosse experience is needed! We are a developmental program aimed at teaching lacrosse to all levels. Elementary school is a great time to start lacrosse as there is much less physical contact, and emphasis is placed on fundamentals and field play.
