No, no prior lacrosse experience is needed. We are a developmental program aimed at teaching lacrosse to all levels. This is a great age to start lacrosse as emphasis is placed on fundamentals and field play.
There is some body contact allowed and limited stick checking below the shoulders, but this is not the aggressive full contact game played at higher levels.
Boys field lacrosse requires a stick and full pads including helmet, shoulder, elbow, gloves, and cup. Cleats are recommended but not required (soccer or lacrosse are fine).

Equipment can be found locally at Blueline Sports in Harrison, Dick's Sporting Goods and Lacrosse Unlimited.
Generally for younger players it's fine to look at pads in the lower price range - the higher end equipment is designed for older players where there is a lot more contact. The most expensive piece of equipment will be the helmet ($125-175 new) - it's also the most important!
After the helmet the stick is probably the second most important piece of equipment. Mesh pockets are recommended at this age, and either a smaller 7/8" shaft or the more common 1" shaft is fine (the smaller diameter can be great for smaller hands).
Stick length should be a minimum 36" including the head, most are sold slightly longer and can be cut down if needed.
